Lenehans supports the WEEE Regulations and Battery Directive to help ensure old electrical goods and batteries are recycled safely and correctly.
What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. This includes old electrical products, electronic items and appliances that have reached the end of their useful life.
Lenehans are proud to implement the WEEE Regulations and Battery Directive to ensure that your old appliances are disposed of in a safe, correct manner, reducing harmful effects on the environment.
Lenehans WEEE take-back
Lenehans take back your WEEE on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis, free of charge, in store or at the time of delivery.
One-for-one, like-for-like means the old item being returned should be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new item being purchased.
In store
You can return WEEE to Lenehans on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis when purchasing a similar new electrical item.
At delivery
Where applicable, WEEE may be taken back at the time of delivery on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis.
Battery recycling
Waste batteries, including rechargeable batteries, are taken back free of charge. You are not obliged to make any purchase when returning old batteries.
Since September 2008, shops that sell batteries must take back waste batteries for free recycling, regardless of whether you purchase anything in their store.
Household batteries
Household batteries such as AA, AAA and button cell batteries can be brought back to shops that sell similar batteries.
Car and specialist batteries
Car batteries can be brought back to your local garage or motor factor, and electric fence batteries can be brought to your local agri-store.
Local recycling facilities
Each local authority must also accept household WEEE and small batteries free of charge at its recycling facilities.
WEEE Ireland also provides authorised collection points and an interactive map to help customers find their nearest recycling centre, public collection day, electrical retailer or bulb exchange store.
About WEEE Ireland
WEEE Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation founded by producers of electrical and electronic appliances in order to comply with the legal obligations imposed by the WEEE Directive.
WEEE Ireland organises the treatment and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and accumulators from authorised collection points on behalf of its producer members.
Objective
The WEEE objective is to provide cost-effective compliance for producers to meet the requirements of the WEEE Regulations and Battery Regulations, while minimising the cost to the consumer.
Returning batteries to Lenehans
You can return your waste batteries to Lenehans at our Capel Street store.
